On Puppet managed systems it might be interesting and sometimes even important to know, if a file is managed by Puppet, because manual changes will be overridden next time Puppet executes.I’m only using vim on my machines and discovered a very nice plugin. It’s called Tangledstrings by Chris Jones and displays a warning message once a file is opened or saved
After some web-searching, I found a promising thread on the puppet list asking what's lost without a puppet master.
If you aren't yet using Puppet or Chef for managing your *nix infrastructure, you should seriously consider it. The benefits are enormous. Frankly, I don't think you __can__ manage a modern infrastructure without using Puppet, Chef, or reinventing a configuration management framework with your own custom scripts. However, you can't use both Chef and Puppet together, so which should you choose?
