Über Jahrzehnte hinweg haben sich Deutschlands Städte keine Gedanken über die Lebensmittelversorgung gemacht. Jetzt drängt das Thema Ernährung mit Macht in die Städte zurück. Die Bürger beginnen, ihr Obst und Gemüse selbst anzubauen, und das nicht im Kleingarten und Hinterhof, sondern demonstrativ im Vorgarten und im Stadtpark. Die Bürger bemächtigen sich gleich zweier symbolischer und grundlegender Teile ihres (Stadt-) Lebens: ihrer Lebensmittelversorgung und des öffentlichen Raums.
Sack gardening is a form container gardening that can be practised in densely populated areas where a garden plot is usually not available for most parts of the local population. Like other forms of urban gardens that can be found worldwide since the existence of cities, i.e. roof, backyard or community gardens, they all complement the nutrition of their owners by providing vegetables, herbs and staples
Once, a city was divided in two parts. One part became the Good Half, the other part the Bad Half. The inhabitants of the Bad Half began to flock to the good part of the divided city, rapidly swelling into an urban exodus. If this situation had been allowed to con- tinue forever, the population of the Good Half would have doubled, while the Bad Half would have turned into a ghost town. Af ter all attempts to interrupt this undesir- able migration had failed, the authorities of the bad part made desperate and savage use of architecture: they built a wall around the good part of the city, making it completely inaccessible to their subjects. The Wall was a masterpiece.
